Congratulations to Susan MacDonald who completed the AAO Leadership Development Program in 2011. Susan was one of 4 LDP graduates selected to present her LDP project to her graduating LDP colleagues and the incoming class during the final LDP session in Orlando.

Join the AMA Foundation for Excellence in Medicine Awards in honoring WIO Vice President, Mildred M.G. Olivier, MD, as the recipient of the Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine. This awards honors physicians who demonstrate the medical profession's highest values of altruism, compassion and dedication to patient care.

WIO congratulates Lauren Patty, MD, who is WIO's Advocacy Ambassador at the upcoming AAO Mid-Year Forum! Dr. Patty is completing a three year residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Mildred M.G. Olivier, MD, has been selected to receive the 2009 Women in Ophthalmology/Suzanne Veronneau-Troutman Award. This annual award given by WIO through the generosity of Dr. Suzanne Veronneau-Troutman will be presented to Dr. Olivier at the WIO Reception on Sunday, October 25, 4:30-6:30 pm at the Palace Hotel, State Suite in San Francisco, California.

Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) honored Anne Coleman, MD, PhD and William Rich, MD, as featured lecturers at the 2009 WIO Summer Symposium held August 6-9 in San Diego. Dr. Coleman was invited to give the Bernice Z. Brown Memorial Lecture in honor of the work Dr. Brown accomplished in the WIO organization and for women in ophthalmology. Dr. Rich was selected to present the WIO Honorary Lecture reserved for one leader in the field of ophthalmology each year.

Dr. Lynn K. Gordon, MD, PhD, has been appointed the first Associate Dean for Academic Diversity for the David Geffen School of Medicine. Her responsibilities will primarily focus on faculty recruitment and retention and developing an inclusive and welcoming climate for all faculty with particular attention to issues affecting women and minorities. Dr. Gordon will start her new position on July 1, 2009.
