Mentorship Program

The WIO Mentorship Program was established in 2006 by Gloria Wang, MD, as a natural extension of the WIO's Mission Statement. One of the main purposes of WIO is to improve the professional environment for women ophthalmologists. The Mentorship Program strives to carry out this goal at a one-on-one level by matching mentors and mentees of similar interests to promote their professional lives.

The WIO Mentorship Program is open to all WIO members. Please download and complete the form below to be matched with a mentor or mentee. Not a WIO member? Click on the Join WIO button below to take advantage of all the WIO membership benefits like the WIO Mentorship Program.

Mentor matches may be based on:
  • Subspecialty
  • Research Interests
  • Career Type (ie: academic, private practice, industry, etc.)
  • Work/Life Balance
  • Other Interests

The benefits that mentees receive range from meeting a new research collaborator, to help with finding job opportunities, to simply getting basic advice from someone who has gone through the same challenges. Mentors have the satisfaction of knowing they have helped to promote the careers of the future generation of women ophthalmologists. All WIO members are encouraged to participate in this valuable program.
